About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Civil Designer to join our team, with 5 or more years of experience in civil site or land development design.
This is a designer role, not a production drafting role. You will take commercial site projects from base file to 65 percent plans using our CAD standards, with an engineer or EIT directing drainage and stormwater design.
Requirements
Your Role on Our Team:
Build and manage project base files utilizing Altar Group CAD standards and templates
Develop site, grading, paving, utility, and drainage plans through 65 percent with minimal direction.
Model finished grade in Civil 3D using surfaces, feature lines, and grading objects
Lay out and design storm, sanitary, and water pipe networks, including structures, rims, inverts, and profiles
Implement grading, utility and stormwater design as directed by the project engineer or EIT
Incorporate redlines and review comments independently and accurately
Identify design conflicts, constructability issues, and likely reviewer comments before plans leave the office
Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and surveyors to keep projects moving on schedule
What We Are Looking For:
5 or more years of civil site or land development design experience
Advanced proficiency in Civil 3D, including surfaces, feature lines, grading objects, and pipe networks
Experience taking commercial pad sites (retail, quick service restaurant, automotive service, convenience) through permitting
Working understanding of grading, drainage, detention, and utility design principles
Familiarity with Texas municipal and county review requirements; Houston-area experience preferred
Ability to work within an established CAD standard and keep a sheet set organized and consistent
Judgment to recognize when something does not look right and bring it forward with a solution
No degree required. Demonstrated site design experience matters more to us than credentials
Compensation and Benefits:
Competitive salary with a defined path for growth
We protect a 40-hour work week
Employer-paid health insurance for employee and spouse
3 percent 401(k) match plus a 2 percent profit-sharing contribution
Three weeks paid time off
Hybrid schedule with up to three remote days per week once established in the role
